CPI(M) Central Committee Member U. Vasuki said that political events that take place anywhere in the world will directly affect the working class people in the respective countries. She made this statement while addressing a public meeting here on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, she said, “For those who once mocked us with quotes ‘If it rains in Moscow, a communist will hold an umbrella in Madurai’ for speaking about world politics on stage will now understand that United State’s tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump are creating ripple effects in Tamil Nadu and across the country.”
She pointed out that this is not a foreign issue as some might assume, but that affects the working class people across the world. “Who gave Mr. Trump the right to decide what a country should buy from others?” she questioned
Ms. Vasuki noted that as pointed out by Dindigul MP R. Sachithanatham at the public meeting, the matter was not allowed for discussion in Parliament. She added that India’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Britain will affect key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, dairy, farming ultimately impacting the workers depending on the industry.
Focusing on local concerns she said, “The salt industry in Thoothukudi district must be protected. Safeguarding it will not only benefit manufacturers but also thousands of employees who rely on the sector.
Addressing the critics, she added, “If our actions are bringing attention from someone, it only shows that we are doing manifold work for people.”
