Robert Redford, a leading star of 1970s Hollywood, an Oscar-winning director and a champion of environmental causes, has died.

I’m not that comfortable celebrating myself. And there’s so many red carpets, so many places that — I’m more interested in what the purpose is, which is showing the films. Our job and our role is to create a space and a platform to bring new voices and new ways of seeing the world, using independent film to this place. This is an urgent matter. It’s not something we can keep talking about. We have to act, and we have to act sooner rather than later because the meter’s ticking.
